Walking/Treking

From lazy walks through pretty mountain villages, to overnight refuge treks and serious scrambles to bag the wild 3000+ metre peaks, the Pyrenees offer something for everyone.

Walking is indeed the best way of seeing these fantastic sites, cirques, cliffs, gorges, and lakes… Access to the central zone of the park is prohibited for vehicles.

Skiing

Skiing in the Pyrenees is a secret well-kept by the French and relatively unknown in the UK. You can explore kilometres of well-groomed piste set in beautiful unspoiled scenery, for a fraction of what you would pay in the Alps, and without the crowds. The Pyrenees are wonderful in the winter, receiving more snow annually than the Alps due to their maritime position near to the Atlantic coast. The weather conditions are also ideal – stable high pressure systems bringing clear blue skies, interspersed with heavy snowstorms to refresh the slopes.

Climbing & Mountaineering

The region is packed with both Sport and Traditional routes.

The Valley Aspe has an active climbing scene with routes varying from novice to accomplished alpinist.

There are many sport routes within a short distance and for the more ambitious you have classics of varying grades.
